This was sung last night on American Idol by fifteen year old, Thia Megia. I had forgotten about this song – it was from the movie “Fame” and sung by the great Irene Cara. This is why I love things like American Idol – not only do we get to see up and coming new artists – but are also reminded of great songs in the process – and for me as a music teacher – it’s VERY VALUABLE! I was in luck too – this great song is available in sheet music – Yay! You bet I’m going to be having a few students singing it this week! Hope you enjoy it – it’s one of the very best!

Sometimes I wonder where I’ve been
Who I am
Do I fit in.
Make believin’ is hard alone,
Out here on my own
We’re always provin’ who we are
Always reachin’ for the risin’ star
To guide me far
And shine me home
Out here on my own
When I’m down and feelin’ blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you
Until the morning sun appears
Making light of all my fears
I dry the tears
I’ve never shown
Out here on my own
When I’m down and feelin’ blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you
Sometimes I wonder where I’ve been
Who I am
Do I fit in
I may not win
But I can’t be thrown
Out here on my own
On my own
